2024 Australian Open: Day 7 recap
On a big day of action across the Gold Coast, the men’s fours knockout rounds kicked off and saw some huge upsets, while the women’s fours commenced with the favourites all putting their best foot forward.
Men’s Fours – R128, R64, R32
The men’s knockout draw saw a monumental upset as the defending champions in Barrie Lester, Corey Wedlock, Aaron Teys and Aron Sherriff were defeated 19-6 by Damien Delgado, Ben Hubber, Rob McMullen and Cody Packer in the round of 32.
Wednesday’s round of 16 will see a huge matchup between the Jack McShane, Joseph Clarke, Sean Baker and Ben Twist rink, who will face off against Riley Gerick, Cody Gerick, Jacob Nelson and Kane Nelson.
Wayne Turley OAM, Sean Ingham, Aaron Wilson and Ali Forsyth made it through, as did Ray Pearse, Peter Taylor, Gary Kelly and Carl Healey.
Finally, Mike Carroll, Kevin Anderson, Ryan Burnett and Ryan Bester also ensured progression.
*Due to clashes with other disciplines, some round of 16 matches will need to be played prior to the scheduled date allocated. Bowls Australia’s events staff will contact the teams affected by the clashes on Saturday, June 15.

Women’s Fours
The women’s fours kicked off at the tournament and it was a sensational day for the big names as Samantha Ferguson, Rebecca Van Asch, Lynsey Clarke and Kelsey Cottrell progressed after a sensational day.
The Brianna Smith, Ellen Falkner MBE, Ellen Fife and Kristina Krstic would also progress, as would the team that defeated them in the final of last year’s event in Olivia Cartwright, Laura Butler, Chloe Stewart and Katelyn Inch.
Kylie Whitehead and Cassandra Millerick’s squad would get through with Kira Bourke and Emma Simmons, as would the team containing Tayla Bruce and Emerging Jackaroos Sophie Kurzman, Kate Argent-Bowden and Jessie Cottell.
Finally, Natasha Van Eldik, Dawn Hayman, Gen Delves and Jamie-Lee Worsnop progressed, as did Samantha Atkinson’s squad.
