2024 Nationals: Day 8 wrap
The final round of the 2024 Australian Senior Sides Championships proved to be pulsating as the John Dobbie AM trophy was only decided upon the final end as South Australia rose off the canvas to defeat Tasmania, while the Betty Collins OAM trophy went to the Victorians for the third straight year.
Men

South Australia left it late in their tie against Tasmania to seal the overall men’s honours after only taking the lead on the master board after the 60th end of the clash.
For the majority of the final session, it looked as though New South Wales would conquer the event after leading Queensland for the entirety of their matchup.
However, in the final stages, the three red, blue and gold rinks were able to hold on to take home the coveted award.
The Blues finished in second ahead of Queensland while Victoria rounded out the top four.
Western Australia overcame the ACT in the final round to take home fifth place on the overall table.
The Northern Territory and Tasmania rounded out the ladder.
Overall rink winner – New South Wales’ Michael Clarke, Peter Taylor, Paul Williams and Robert Warren claimed best rink after a sensational undefeated campaign.
Women
It would be a three-peat for Victoria who once again hoist the Betty Collins OAM trophy aloft thanks to a comprehensive win over the Northern Territory in the concluding tie.
Despite a loss to New South Wales in the deciding matchup, Queensland would finish in second place on the table by two rink points over their southern rivals.
South Australia would clinch fourth with a victory over Tasmania, while Western Australia leapfrogged from seventh to fifth thanks to a sensational salutation over the ACT in their morning matchup.
The capital finished in sixth ahead of Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
Overall rink winner – Victoria’s Julie Fitt, Jenny Keep, Claire Sanders and Gayle Edwards were crowned as the event’s rink winners following an unblemished tournament.
Glynn Bosisto MBE overall trophy
The supremely consistent display from New South Wales saw the state claim a narrow victory in the Glynn Bosisto MBE trophy.
Following in second was Victoria ahead of South Australia with Queensland in fourth.
