2024 World Bowls Junior Indoor Championships: Day 4 recap
The knockout stage beckons for both Kane Nelson and Kira Bourke across all disciplines after a strong day in Hong Kong at the 2024 World Bowls Junior Indoor Championships.
The Queensland duo’s mixed pairs campaign will continue into the quarterfinals after an undefeated run through the sectional rounds.
Nelson and Bourke needed to overcome Singapore in the final contest of the pool matchups to ensure their place in the final eight, and were able to take home a 5-3 8-5 win to set up a quarterfinal showdown with Hong Kong.
After falling just short in her two singles clashes on Wednesday, Bourke went undefeated on a sensational day for the Club Tweed product.
The Right at Home Emerging Jackaroo opened her account with a 10-4 5-4 victory against Wales’ Lauren Gowen before backing up with a 10-2 14-2 win against Norfolk Island’s Ellie Dixon to move back into second place ahead of her final group match against section three leader in Hong Kong’s Abbie Chan on Friday.
Meanwhile, Nelson’s singles campaign remains unblemished thanks to a momentum shifting 7-6 0-10 5-0 win over England’s Aaron Johnson in his only game of the day.
