Australia’s teams for July’s Lion and Merlion Cups in Singapore have been announced with the National Selection Panel sending a contingent of 14 players to the island nation for an action-packed fortnight.

The Lion Cup, held from July 6-12, is a pairs tournament that will see the green and gold compete in four disciplines with two open teams and two under-25 teams set to compete, similar to that of New Zealand’s Burnside Pairs each January.

Right at Home Jackaroo Corey Wedlock will lead the open men’s pairs squad with his Australian teammate Lee Schraner set to skip.

The open women’s pairing will see another Jackaroo duo of Jamie Lee Worsnop and Dawn Hayman take to the greens in a familiar combination for the pair.

New South Wales’ Emerging Jackaroo Jack McShane will lead the under-25 men’s pairs for Queensland’s Kane Nelson, with both enjoying a rich vein of form over the past twelve months.

The women’s under-25 team will see Victoria’s Olivia Cartwright lead for Jessie Cottell following the pair’s exemplary performances across a number of recent events.

The Merlion Cup will take place in the week immediately following and is a sole para competition with Australia set to compete in four events throughout the tournament.

Featuring in the tournament will be para men’s and women’s pairs, mixed fours and a vision-impaired mixed pairs discipline that will see the country showcase some of its premium para bowlers.

The women’s pairs will see Para Jackaroos Carolyn Nelson and Cheryl Lindfield team up, while Brett Sellars and Chris Flavel will stride onto the green together in the men’s event.

In addition, Nelson and Lindfield will play as the front two in the mixed fours with Sellars and Flavel in the third and skip position respectively.

Finally, Australia’s 2023 World Bowls Championships winning vision-impaired mixed pairs team of Jacky Hudson (Rob Hudson director) and Jake Fehlberg (Cody Fehlberg director) will combine once more as they look to further enhance their reputation as one of the most formidable duos in the world landscape.
