Bowls Australia (BA) is proud to announce that it has been named as a finalist in two categories as part of the 2024 Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Sport Performance Awards (ASPAs).

For its work in building an inclusive culture from grassroots to high performance that focuses on the player, BA has been recognised as a finalist in the Win Well Award.

The award shines a light on the organisations or high performance programs that embody the vision of Australia’s 2032+ High Performance Sport Strategy and foster an environment with wellbeing as the foundation of sustainable success.

BA has been nominated alongside Athletics Australia High Performance Program, CombatAUS and Gymnastics Australia High Performance Team.

Right at Home Para Jackaroo Serena Bonnell has also been named as a finalist in the Community Engagement Award for her work in encouraging inclusivity in the bowls community.

As a proud ambassador for the LGBTQI+ and disability communities, Bonnell’s commitment to ensuring bowls is the most inclusive sport in Australia has been second to none.

She has actively worked with states and clubs to establish events that are para-inclusive, as well as host para come-and-try days and one-on-one coaching sessions.

Other finalists in the Community Engagement Award are Felicity Turner from Skate Australia, Nikki Ayers from Rowing Australia and Rhydian Cowley from Athletics Australia.

Winners for the 2024 ASPAs will be announced at a gala event in Melbourne on Wednesday, December 4.
